Exam Registration #
Please note that you must register online for all module final examinations (MAP), regardless of the type of exam and whether it is graded or not. This also applies to the MAP for the main field excursion.
If any problems occur during online registration—for example, for technical reasons—please contact the Examination Officeimmediately (not the teaching staff). If you are eligible for the exam, they will be happy to assist you.
Registrations via phone or email are not accepted!
If you fail to register for a MAP, your performance will generally not be recognized retroactively, even if the work was completed.
Information on exam registration and completing coursework in the interdisciplinary elective area can be found on the Faculty’s website.
Please note that successfully registering for an exam, including meeting the deadlines, is your own responsibility!
Ausnahmen und Sonderfälle #
Only in the following exceptional cases is exam registration handled differently:
Bachelor Module “Geographical Professional Practice” & MSc Module Scientific Writing Registration for the MAP in the module Geographical Professional Practice occurs within the course Practical Workshop. The MSc module “Scientific Writing” has no MAP. Successful participation is reported by the instructors to the Examination Office.
Bachelor or Master Thesis You register your thesis either personally at the Examination Office or by sending the completed and signed registration form via email from your HU account. Further information on the thesis can be found here).
Incoming students (ERASMUS) and guest auditors Erasmus students and guest auditors must register for the MAP personally or via email at the Examination Office within the registration deadlines.
Deadlines #
Registration deadlines and the exam schedule can be found on the Geography Examination Office website (Faculty). Please also pay attention to information in your HU account and via the newsletter.
Do not wait until the last minute to register for exams. If problems occur at the deadline, they may not be resolved even if you contact the Examination Office immediately. This also applies to technical problems beyond your control. THEREFORE: always register for exams a few days before the deadline!
Falls If you have not received or have lost your TAN list, please contact the AGNES-Team.
Only in urgent exceptional cases will a new TAN list be issued at the Examination Office.
Withdrawal from Registered Exams #
You may withdraw from an exam online without giving reasons up to one week before the exam date. Here you can find the conditions and procedures for withdrawing after the withdrawal deadline (e.g., if you are ill, you must submit the relevant evidence immediately—at the latest on the day of the exam—at the Examination Office (postmark date counts)).
Exam Dates and Retakes #
For written and oral exams, there are two exam periods each semester—once at the end of the lecture period of the respective semester and once before the beginning of the lecture period of the following semester. (NOTE: For exam formats like term papers or portfolios, there is only one exam period and one opportunity to register for the MAP.) You can choose when to take written or oral exams and are not required to take them in the first exam period.
Failed exams can be repeated twice. If you take the exam only in the second exam period and fail, or if you miss both periods, you generally have to wait a year before taking the exam again.
NOTE: Some courses (and corresponding MAP) are not offered annually. Elective courses often occur only once, so after the exam periods have passed, there may be no opportunity to complete the exam. (There is no entitlement to complete these modules successfully afterward!)
NOTE: Students registering for a 3rd exam attempt may first consult with the respective examiner. Registration for the exam must then be done personally at the Examination Office! Please present proof of consultation or your waiver for consultation.
Here you can find the current exam dates and periods as well as the academic calendar and deadlines at HU.
