Exam Registration #

Please note that you must register online for all module examinations (MAP), regardless of the form of examination and whether it is graded or not. This also applies to the MAP for the main field trip (Hauptexkursion) and, in the Mono Bachelor (SPO 2018), to the MAP for the research and communication workshop (module B12)!

If you do not register for a MAP, credits will as a rule not be recognized retroactively, even if the work has been completed.

Information on registering for examinations and on earning credits in the interdisciplinary elective area (ÜWP) can be found on the faculty’s website.

Please note that successful exam registration, including meeting the deadlines, is your own responsibility!

Exceptions and Special Cases #

Exam registration is handled differently only in the following exceptional cases:

Bachelor module “Geographical Professional Practice” #

Registration for the MAP in the module “Geographical Professional Practice” takes place within the course “Practice Workshop” (Praxiswerkstatt).

MSc module Scientific Writing #

The MSc module “Scientific Writing” has no MAP. The teaching staff report successful participation to the Examination Office.

Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis #

You register your thesis either in person at the Examination Office or by sending the completed and signed registration form by email from your HU account. Further information on the thesis can be found here.

Incoming students (ERASMUS) and guest students #

Erasmus students and guest students (Nebenhörer:innen) register for the MAP in person or by email at the Examination Office within the registration deadlines.

Deadlines #

Here you will find the current examination dates and periods as well as HU’s academic dates and deadlines.

The registration deadlines and the examination schedule can be found on the website of the Geography Examination Office (faculty). Please also look out for information sent to your HU account and via the newsletter.

Please do not wait until just before the end of the registration period to register for exams. If problems occur during registration, they can then no longer be resolved, even if you contact the Examination Office immediately. Unfortunately, this also applies to technical problems that are not your fault. THEREFORE: be sure to register for exams a few days before the deadline!

If you have not received a TAN list or have lost it, please contact the AGNES team.

Only in urgent exceptional cases will you receive a new TAN list from the Examination Office.

Withdrawal from Registered Exams #

You can withdraw from an exam online without giving reasons up to the day before the exam date.

Exam Dates and Retakes #

For written and oral exams, there are two examination periods each semester – one towards the end of the lecture period of the semester concerned and one before the start of the lecture period of the following semester. (PLEASE NOTE: for the examination form “term paper” or similar formats such as “portfolio”, there is only one examination period and only one opportunity to register for the MAP.) You can decide yourself when to take written or oral exams and are not obliged to do so in the first examination period.

Failed exams can be retaken twice. If you only sit the exam in the second examination period and then fail it, or if you let both examination periods pass, you will usually not have another opportunity to take the exam until a year later!

PLEASE NOTE: some courses (and the associated MAP) are not offered every year. Elective courses often take place only once, so that once the examination periods have passed, it is no longer possible to take an exam for these courses. (There is then no entitlement to still complete these modules successfully!)

PLEASE NOTE: students registering for a third exam attempt have the option of first attending a counselling session with the examiner concerned. Registration for the exam is then done in person at the Examination Office! Please present proof of the counselling session or your declaration waiving it.
